So... I keep meaning to make something someplace where I can keep track of stories and art that I like. I'm finally giving in and starting an lj entry on it. I'm making it public cause maybe some other people like finding good stories =)
Right now I'm focusing on art, and AMVs. I have a bunch of files on my hard drive with the addresses of my favourite fics, and I hope to get those up soon.
Fan Fics: stories written by fans, for fans. Not much here yet -- I'm focusing on art at the moment.
Fan Art: art, art, art! There are some HIGHLY taleted fan artists on the internet, and I try to gather some of the best works here.
Fan Comics: I was getting quite a number of comics and various sorts of sequential art in the art section, and so I decided to make a section just for them. Here you can find short little two-panel comics along with any good-quality fan doujinshi that can be found online. These can vary a lot in length.
AMVs: MOVED TO THEIR OWN PAGE I love AMVs, but am pretty damn picky about them. I thought I'd share some of my favourites here.
What I warn for: Violence, kinks, yaoi/yuri (slash, femmeslash, homosexuality, etc.) when not in own section, major spoilers, sexual content.
What I don't warn for: Yaoi/yuri (slash, femmeslash, homosexuality, etc.) when that pairing (threesome, whatever) has its own section. Anyting PG-13 and under, since I hope most people can handle that.
Marker | Meaning | Notes |
---|---|---|
Personal favourtie | I like this one a lot! It may not be in any real way superior to anything else in the gallery, but these earn my personal highest recommendation. | |
Male/Male (yoai, slash, etc) | Contains two or more men in sexual or romantic relationships. As far as art goes, I don't label if two guys are simply portayed together. There has to be some kind of significant contact or interaction. | |
Female/Female (yuri, femmeslash, etc.) | Contains two or more women men in sexual or romantic relationships. As far as art goes, I don't label if two girls are simply portayed together. There has to be some kind of significant contact or interaction. | |
Not work-safe | My cover term for the higher ratings, anything from R on up. This includes nakedness and actual sex going on. | |
Violence | Contains blood or other violent imagery. I DO NOT put this on action pics where they're just menacing each other or swinging swords at each other. Usually, someone has to be bleeding or otherwise damaged. |
Please also note that the majority of the fan art pieces are from deviantart or y-gallery. Both places have options for full-sizing images, which I highly recommend in ALL cases. However, I always link to the smaller version out of respect for your internet connections, so that if you don't like a picture, you don't have to waste time downloading it. Also, I NEVER hotlink (except to my own art hosted at my own site). Some artists, however, do not make individual html pages for each of their works. These are handled on a case-by-case basis in the commentary.
Speaking of DA and y-gallery, I believe neither gallery allows non-members to view mature-rated works. Becoming a member in both places is easy and free, and to my knowledge nothing untoward will happen to the information you release to either site. However, if you really don't want to sign up but really want to see some good smut, you can email me nicely (address found in my profile) and I might be able to help you out.
I'm very open to suggestions and always love to read new stories or look at new eye-candy. However, please don't be offended if you recommend a fic or piece of art to me and it doesn't wind up here.
Finally, as a matter of policy, I do not rec my own work. I might, if someone (probably several someones) request that I put tha up here. You can always look at my art by visiting my own site and galleries.

How to File Form 39-B by
A Pirate's Life by
Guard duty in Sereitei by dragonboy-mt -- Ishida and Orihime, ostensibly on guard duty. Something about this picture just strikes all the right notes. Lighting, mood, colours, poses, expressions, all come together so well.
Ichigo on Fire by Aile-M -- Great fire-themed portrait of Ichigo.
Renji (with Rukia) by -- While the artist goes to great pains to make clear that the linework was done by Kubo Tite, the shading on this is so breathtaking that it's definitely worth a look (and a full view!)
I feel pretty by NorthernBanshee -- Byakuya and Gin doing cracktastic things. So cute and well-done.
Spike Spiegel "Session 8" by paintpixel -- Very clean technique and a great pensive air make this image stand out.
vash and spike by bri-chan -- The space cowboys together, inspired by the amazing AMV, Tainted Dounuts (which by itself is making me consider adding an AMV rec section....). I think their potential interaction is very well portrayed, and the detail and colours are excellent. So well-done that I put it BOTH under Trigun AND Cowboy Bebop.
Chibi Gokuu Sunset by risachantag -- Peaceful, with amazing colours and good background detail.
Walking the Path in Purgatory by Pinkuh -- Vejiita in his usual skintight spandex, which looks spectacular here. The image may not be very exciting, but I think it's an excellent portrait of the prince, with fantastic colouring.
You're watching over us by risachantag -- Gohan and Goten thinking of Gokou. Well executed and lovely feeling.
limit:CHAOS by pu-sama -- A breathtaking portrait of Vincent Valentine performing chaos. The nonstandard perspective, colour scheme, and incredible detail deserve a lot of attention.
TidusxSora: I love Ice Cream by ile-o -- This bright picture is too cute and fun to pass up!
FF7 - Boys Night Out by damia -- It's hot, it's got great detail in the background and background characters, and it's Cloud/Reno. Plus it's just overall gorgeous. Just go look.
Lulu: Baleful Eye by the-z -- While the pose is not entirely original, the mood and detail of this depiction of Lulu definitely make up for it.
Smiling Squall by mayyeo -- A realistic Squall, and it works suprisingly well. Those lips are so lush.
Cloud Finish by lince -- Cloud from Advent Childen. Neat low perspective, excellent colouring, and great detail.
Vincent Valentine - For Despe by Athena-chan -- Most excellent red-themed (what else) and interestingly textured portrait of Vincent.
Go by joodlez -- I don't normally go for FMA art that's too great a departure from the series style. This piece, however, is too good to pass up. Most of the main cast is present, and I'm a fan of the shading on Al.
Alphonse Elric by famira -- An incredibly rendered bust of Al. It doesn't look at all digital, but rather looks like pastels.
Scar commish by rftigermode -- Great tones, incredible wind effects, and mesmerizing lighting on the scar. A great piece.
Audience by ponderosa121 -- Roy/Riza, fourth from the right. Very tasteful but still hot. Suggestive, so might not be entirely work-safe. I like how their dogtags are on but everything else isn't.
Envy by gtako -- Strange lighting and limited colour scheme make this image stand out.
Chibi Ed Canvas Event by lince -- Adorable young Ed close to the original style. Very cute.
Anthony J. Crowley by halobender -- Crowley in all his glory. One of my favourite depictions of him.
Good Omens by rowen -- Crowley, Aziraphale, and the antichrist. The little caption bubbles completely make this piece.
Weasley is our King by gold-seven -- This artist has an amazing technique (which she shares with you in a turorial on her site ;)) and its use in this picture is as flawless as ever. Detailed, touching portrayal of Ron after a bad Quidditch game's worth of Keeping.
dumblydore by makani -- Makani is an artist of enormous talent, and I had a hard time choosing a few favourites from her EXTENSIVE and GORGEOUS gallery. Dumbledore with Faweks.
snapeward by makani -- Because it's true.
The Deep End by wynahiros -- Sora and the Ice Titan. A great action piece with great composition and colour.
Traverse by ahvia -- Incredibly well-rendered and kid-friendly pic of Sora.
KH: Sora Keyhole by Risachantag -- A sparse picture of Sora with an interesting colouring style.
DEKU by messa -- Deku Link with one of those flowers. The subdued colours add to that strange melancholy that seems to afflict Deku Link.
Sprawl by wynahiros -- I love the water and the reflected coolness of its light on Sheik.
The Deku Tree's Curse by animetayl -- An unusual amount of detail in the background and overall great technique make this one definitely worth a look.
Zelda Oot - Hail to the Queen by wynahiros -- Boss battle between young Link and Queen Gohma. The texturing on the queen's shell is breathtaking.
Sleepy Link by ghostfire -- Our hero gets a bit of rest. Be sure to full-view for the vivid colours and sharpness.
Link/Sheik - Embrace by damia -- There's an intensity and urgency brought on by the close cropping of this pic that make this stand out.
Eyes of a Wolf by seranatra -- The new version of Link in all his Twilight Princess Splendor. This is based off a screenshot, but considering how tiny the screenshots of the game are so far and how much detail and vibrancy is in this rendition, I'm not sure that's even worth mentioning. Well worth the full view!
Skett and Akoot by rah-bop -- This artist has achieved a difficult thing: taking Winwaker characters out of the signature style and yet having them not only be recognizable, but still feel at home in the Windwaker universe. Lots of detail, very well done. Plus, I love the Rito!
In the Bowels of Hell by wynahiros and mastafuu -- A had a bit of a tough time with this one. The line work is excellent, the action is good, the detailing and colouring are incredible. But I felt like there was somethign missign. It is, nonetheless, an excellent piece of work, my personal and inarticulable gripe aside.
Stained Glass - Yellow Edition by boribaby -- The photograph is not the best quality, but this stained glass-style piece is breathtakingly detailed and colourful. It's part of a series, which is also worth checking out. I chose to feature this one because of the amount of detail and colour in it, but all the rest are definitely great pieces as well.
Stained Glass - Black Edition by boribaby -- Although I already recced one from this series, this newer piece clearly shows a improvement over the one yellow themed one I recced above. The photograph is much better quality, and the piece itself shows sophistication and delightful stylization. The other three pieces in the series besides this and the yellow one are also worth a look.
Usopp in Prismacolors by cosmicdebris -- This coloured pencil profile is in a slightly more realistic style and is remarkably well-rendered.
Funky Usopp by arcirithwen -- Usopp in that fantastic hat he wore for one of the movies. Nice pose and a slightly more realistic style combine with an earthy colour scheme.
Miss Doublefinger by ace87x -- An unusually detailed rendering on Miss Doublefinger, with excellent lighting on the clothes and great detail in the hair.
One Piece Trio by announcerguy -- A great watercolour piece focusing on Luffy and his first two nakama. Very fun and bright.
there's an easy life by taintedsilence -- This may be ust an ID pic, but it's original and well-executed, and definitely deserves a look.
Portgas D. Ace by lynda-chan -- It's Ace, it's hot, it's well-rendered. Do you need more excuses?
Hang Out by psychedelicmind -- I love the friendly feeling of this pic, the spirit of comraderie. The colours are also amazing.
We are right here... by kalei-chan -- A breathtaking piece of line work from one of the fandom's most renowned artists. The Norland and Kalgara flashback remains my favourite part of the series (tied with Franky's flashback =P), and this scene evokes all the power of that arc.
enel by shu-zhang -- Normally I'm not a fan of seasonal pics, partly some artists done't put as much effort ino them, but mostly because I get a ping of NO WAY! from most fandoms, since the majority of them don't have whatever holiday is being celebrated here on Earth. This pic, however, can stand all on it own with original pose and composition and very good colours.
Young Iceburg ver.2 by asami-chan -- Iceburg in a slightly more realistic style, filled out a little bit and as hot as ever. I like the lighting, and his eyes.
The World's Best Raver..? by rhandi-mask -- An original AU take on the Caption Kuro arc. The lighting is quite excellent, as is the anatomy.
Commission: Franky by the-z -- A great pencil sketch of Franky. Be warned, that speedo is pretty tight, and the image is rather anatomically correct!
come on just a taste by junkeemunky -- Lucci just like he should be -- disturbing and lovely. Lucci and Hattori.
Never Forget by yayduocake -- Warning! Spoilers for the end of the Alabasta Arc. Vivi with her nakama mark. The style and execution are very simple, but I think anyone who has seen the canonical image for the end of the arc will feel the pull of this piece.
One Piece - Wild West by elvire -- Zoro and Sanji as cowboys. The artist's usual remarkable texturing partnered with a fun concept.
... and much badassery was had by vejiita4eva -- Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Ace. This artist does remarkable work in a number of fandoms, but I had a hard time choosing a piece to feature here. This might be because I'm usually not unto the slightly (not much!) feminized style, but the technique is so good that I can't pass this up.
Glow by Cranberry -- Ace in a great pose with minimalist but highly effective colouring. Be sure to full-view to get the pencil and anatomy details!
Sanji's fight by kemot -- Sanji in action on Drum Island. It's always a pleasure to watch Sanji do his thing, and the great rendering in this picture makes it even more enjoyable.
Sanji by merry-sensei -- A fun watercolour of Sanji. I had a tough time deciding whether or not to rec this one, but the fun atmosphere and good control of a difficult medium won me over in the end =)
Happy Birthday Sanji-san by taintedsilence -- The colours are incredible. Very fine pencil and marker work!
the chef by jargirl -- This is part of a series, the rest of which is worth checing out, but this is my favourite. A startlingly original portrayal of our favourite chef. The artists has taken a pretty standard pose/expression and made i exciting with cool use of colour and line.
the cook by elvire -- Mr. prince himself, in a slight departure from his usual fashion sense, but still looking as good as he ever does in that orange and black pinstripe shirt. Interesting texturing, out of the same series as the swordsman pic of Zoro.
Sunset Zoro by taintedsilence -- Zoro on the beach in the sunset. Amazing lighting and good background detail, plus an unusual pose for Zoro make this image stand out.
the swordsman by elvire -- Good use of textures, and well done anatomy.
Zoro Roronoa by elvire -- Amazing portrayal of Zoro showing off something other than his broody side and his swords. Unique and excellently done!
For Chirusea3 by umitsu -- Zoro leaning in for a kiss over the railing. Great posing and composition, great shading, nice kissing -- everything it takes to make a good pic, plus it's ZoSan!
Scuttlebutt - matureness ahoy by asukawa -- Warning!: Blood, small amounts of nudity. Very emotional piece with well done atmosphere.
hurtxcomfort SanZo by asukawa -- The indeterminate background gives the scene a dreamy quality. I especially like Sanji's pose and hands.
Fashionably Untitled by junkeemunky -- JM shows us just enough to make it REALLY interesting, but not enough to satisfy. A great tease of a picture, and it doesnŐt even have any nudity, just a lot of great tension.
Zoro x Sanji--about even by -- I love this picture because it seems so much more in character for Zoro and Sanji than the majority of art with them. They look pushy and competitive and a little lazy, and I love it.
For Kichara by umitsu -- Great lighting, airy atmosphere, and in general wonderful execution.
smokerxace by emlan -- Playful and fun, with great colours, this is a wonderful little piece.
Tangled by cranberry -- Ace climbing around on Smoker like a demented monkey. Not at all as dirty as it sounds. Very well done with great poses and expressions. The minimal colouring helps as well.
Hair Redying by famira -- Luffy redying Zoro's hair. Very cute and a fun idea.
rampant chibi stupidity by kinbu -- Lucci/Paulie. Ex. Dee. Because you really have to wonder XD
shp.03 -- the doctor by jargirl -- Chopper, from the same series as a Sanji pic by the same artist above. The expression is just too funny.
Franky thinks this is TITS by captainosaka -- Franky on a bike. It's crack, but it seems to fit him.
Perfect Family by kattlegnat -- Little Franky's idea of a perfect family. Aww. How sweet. Check out what he did to poor Iceburg!
the man with a million names by rocketgal -- While poking fun at Sanji's ridiculous proliferation of names, rocketgal also draws a great, flowing version of Sanji at his silliest.
Doctor's Appointment by ragweed -- Usopp and Kaya! This is just some pretty simple line art, but I wanted to include this because there isn't enough of these two, because while simple it's still well executed, and because the idea is just too sweet to pass by.
Kid Sanji by darkjak -- Little Sanji is both adorable and demonic here. I couldn't pass this up.
Zoro Carrot by umitsu -- It makes me laugh and it's so true XD. Also well-rendered.
Cliff-top battle by umbra-rockchick -- Showdown between Sonic and Metallix. Good use of detail and colour.
S O N I C - the Hedgehog by greatLP and lastscionz -- While the pose may not be original or exciting, the colouring is too good to pass up.
Sonic 1 fanart by worryfox -- Ahh, nostalgia! From the good old days of Sonic. A friendly piece that brings back memories.
Now you see him... by umbra-rockchick -- Espio doing what chameleons do best. Nice use of grays with his purple, and I like the composition and use of fade out.
.VASH. the stampede by lastscionz -- Great action shot of Vash with little to distract fom the great colouring and excellent posing.
vash and spike by bri-chan -- The space cowboys together, inspired by the amazing AMV, Tainted Dounuts (which by itself is making me consider adding an AMV rec section....). I think their potential interaction is very well portrayed, and the detail and colours are excellent. So well-done that I put it BOTH under Trigun AND Cowboy Bebop.
vash goyle by bri-chan -- I'm generally not a fan of angel/devil/gargoyle/furry/whatever rendition of characters who aren't already one of the aforementioned, but this picture not only has excellent execution, but makes Vash still recognizable and believable.
vash under the sun by d-e-l-a-c-r-o-i-x -- This image is unusual in anumber of ways that come together to form a strangely compelling work. The unusally bright and saturated colours, the off-center composition, and great rendering of the character make this worth a look.
You lead me through the endless sea of sand... by SirWVAddict -- Vash and Wolfwood in the endless see of sand. Bright colours, and be sure to check the full-view to see how crisp this image actually is.
BELLE by pat-mcmichael -- A remarkably realistic graphite pencil rendering of Belle.
Blue Sky by arakunae -- Simple image of Inuyasha, the land, and the blue, blue sky. The composition and simplicity make it work so well.
YOU.. obey the FIST by lastscionz -- It's so hard to find good Johnen Vasquez fanart because the man's style is so crazy, but this is GREAT.
Kim Possible's Instructor by ziwu -- An age-old question answered in a fun way. This artist has a lot of Kim Possible work in their gallery, but this piece has a lot of fund and whimsy to it and stands out from the rest.
sarah by bri-chan -- Honestly not a fandom I'd ever thought I'd rec anything in, but this piece is AMAZING -- the detailed and controlled marker work is something worth seeing. I especially love the hair and headdress.
the last by bri-chan -- One of my favourite movies (and books!). I always thought that movie had one of the most beautiful art styes I'd ever seen, and this picture captures that fathfully while adding a flair unique to the artist. marvelous =)
Nausicaa by lcibos -- Amazing detail, great composition, and overall excellent execution.
Howl's Moving Castle by quietharm -- Howl and Sophie. The exceptionally clean lines, cel shading, and on-model look of the characters make this worth a look.
Howl by Quizzical -- Howl in half-monster form. Great colours and shadowy feel.
:NGE: Rei by janaschi -- Great image of Rei with fantastic colouring.
Jack :: The Pumpkin King by neoikeia -- Jack reading a book about Christmas in his room, from the scene where he can't figure out Christmas. The tone of the image fits really well with that of the movie, and it even has a cute border with some other little features from the film.
my celestial star by bri-chan -- Luna and Artemis. I love this couple, but they're so often ignored! Plus, it's a technically delightful piece =)
Dream King by rowen -- A nice watercolour rendition of the dream king.
Trsut me by nebezial -- Spider-Man and Mary Jane embracing while hanging off the side of a building. I'm not really into the fandom, but this piece is so excellently rendered that I had to put it in.
in my rose garden by bri-chan -- Amazing penwork. Anthy and roses.
Code Name V by xxdisciplexx -- V with one of those posters in the background. Looks liek vector art, but the artist says it's entirely Photoshopped. Well done either way!
lucius malfoy - mr tough guy by makani -- A funny little comic done with makani's usual brilliant expressions and flawless style. Lucius' face in the last panel is PRICELESS.
Cliche's Set 1 by mikazuki -- Poking funa t Snape/Lupin cliches. Very cute. There's a second set, but I prefer the first.
malfoys + snow by makani -- My favourite part is the fourth panel, where Lucius can't decide if the situation is good or bad XD. Makani, as always, shows an excellent grasp of expression and character.
death eater brothers by makani -- Short, to the point, and worth a good snicker.
he's on fire by hail-nekoyasha -- Perhaps a little more forethought was in order...
No time for fashion by hail-nekoyasha -- Seriously, Link carries A LOT of stuff around with him. One has to wonder how he changes so quickly. Underwater. Without lifting his feet.
Zelda Oot + MM- Alternate Jobs by wynahiros -- What would Japas' counterpart in Ocarina of Time do? Technically both Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, but the actual events are taking place in the OoT universe. Read the description to understand, if you're not sure what characters are doing out of their games.
Kakashi's Technique by risachantag -- OMFG TOO FUNNY XD. Not only is it hilarious, but it's also a well-drawn comic. Excellent!
Yon Koma: Fated Meeting by the-z -- The fated meeting of the Uchiha brothers as The-Z makes the obvious joke. Still funny and well done, though!
Tarnished by Blood :: Page 1, Page Two, Page Three by dragonboy-mt -- Agree or don't with the premise of this comic, but one can hardly argue with the powerful execution.
Naruto: Tsunade VS Shikamaru by risachantag -- Not only does this short comic have excellent art and a great punchline, but it features two of my favourite characters. Definitely worth a look!
Raidou Genma--bad news by DevoSama -- Wordless, solemn, and moody. This one-page comic says a lot while saying nothing at all.
Birds and Bees by
Speaking Frankly by time-break -- Though this comic is comprised entirely of stick figures, it just seems too much like Franky and made me laugh. Hard.
Trial of the Century by time-break -- A moving scene in the manga, but here it's absolute, hilarious, utter CRACK.
Sonic's Curse by fuzzydemon -- Somehow this particular joke had never occured to me, but now that I see it, I do think it's worth a few snorts.
