So... I keep meaning to make something someplace where I can keep track of stories I like. I'm finally giving in and starting an lj entry on it. I'm making it public cause maybe some other people like finding good stories =)

Right now I'm just adding stories that I ran into recently (today) that I liked and want to remember. Eventually I'll also add to this from the many lists of fics in various fandoms that are scattered around my hard drive =P I'm putting in a table of contents to give myself (and others) an idea of what should go here.

There's no descriptions yet. I might write some later.

Fan Fics: stories written by fans, for fans. Not much here yet -- I'm focusing on art at the moment.
Fan Art: art, art, art! There are some HIGHLY taleted fan artists on the internet, and I try to gather some of the best works here.
Fan Comics: I was getting quite a number of comics and various sorts of sequential art in the art section, and so I decided to make a section just for them. Here you can find short little two-panel comics along with any good-quality fan doujinshi that can be found online. These can vary a lot in length.
AMVs : Coming soon! I love AMVs, but am pretty damn picky about them. I thought I'd share some of my favourites here, when I get the chance.

Please Note: First of all, be aware that this listing will contain works from the entire spectrum of ratings, from the fluffiest, most kid-friendly fics and art to really quite hardcore porn, and includes both het and yaoi (gay, slash, homosexual) pairings, as well as gen. I will try to put warning besides those stories and works that merit it (hard R, NC-17, not work-safe, etc), but I won't warn for yaoi. Those stories should all be under the appropriate categories, by pairing, so that will be taken as a given.

Please also note that the majority of the fan art pieces are from deviantart or y-gallery. Both places have options for full-sizing images, which I highly recommend in ALL cases. However, I always link to the smaller version out of respect for your internet connections, so that if you don't like a picture, you don't have to waste time downloading it. Also, I NEVER hotlink (except to my own art hosted at my own site). Some artists, however, do not make individual html pages for each of their works. These are handled on a case-by-case basis in the commentary.

Speaking of DA and y-gallery, I believe neither gallery allows non-members to view mature-rated works. Becoming a member in both places is easy and free, and to my knowledge nothing untoward will happen to the information you release to either site. However, if you really don't want to sign up but really want to see some good smut, you can email me nicely (address found in my profile) and I might be able to help you out.

Also, I AM EXTREMELY PICKY. My tastes are also rather WIDE-RANGING. This means that a lot of different stuff ends up here, and most of it, I hope, is some of the highest-quality work you'll find on the Internet. I'm very open to suggestions and always love to read new stories or look at new eye-candy. However, please don't be offended if you recommend a fic or piece of art to me and it doesn't wind up here. That doesn't even necessarily mean that I didn't like it. However, I am, as I said, very picky. Not only that, but I do have my own tastes. I try to keep those out of it and just put high quality work here, whatever the subject or style. My tastes and prejudices might and do sometimes get the better of me, though.

Finally, as a matter of policy, I do not rec my own drawings. I might, if someone (probably several someones) request that I put tha up here. You can always look at my art by visiting my own site and galleries.

Cowboy Bebop

General

vash and spike by bri-chan -- The space cowboys together, inspired by the amazing AMV, Tainted Dounuts (which by itself is making me consider adding an AMV rec section....). I think their potential interaction is very well portrayed, and the detail and colours are excellent. So well-done that I put it BOTH under Trigun AND Cowboy Bebop.

-----

Dragon Ball (Z/GT)

General

Chibi Gokuu Sunset by risachantag -- Peaceful, with amazing colours and good background detail.

-----

Full Metal Alchemist

General

Go by joodlez -- I don't normally go for FMA art that's too great a departure from the series style. This piece, however, is too good to pass up. Most of the main cast is present, and I'm a fan of the shading on Al.

Alphonse Elric by famira -- An incredibly rendered bust of Al. It doesn't look at all digital, but rather looks like pastels.

---

Harry Potter

General

Weasley is our King by gold-seven -- This artist has an amazing technique (which she shares with you in a turorial on her site ;)) and its use in this picture is as flawless as ever. Detailed, touching portrayal of Ron after a bad Quidditch game's worth of Keeping.

dumblydore by makani -- Makani is an artist of enormous talent, and I had a hard time choosing a few favourites from her EXTENSIVE and GORGEOUS gallery. Dumbledore with Faweks.

snapeward by makani -- Because it's true.

---

Kushiel's Legacy

General

Phedre's Marque by atacuivel -- I've seen many depictions of the marque, but this one is one of my favourites. The intricacy and attention to detail is amazing.

---

The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time

General

Sprawl by wynahiros -- I love the water and the reflected coolness of its light on Sheik.

The Deku Tree's Curse by animetayl -- An unusual amount of detail in the background and overall great technique make this one definitely worth a look.

---

The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker

General

Skett and Akoot by rah-bop -- This artist has achieved a difficult thing: taking Winwaker characters out of the signature style and yet having them not only be recognizable, but still feel at home in the Windwaker universe. Lots of detail, very well done. Plus, I love the Rito!

In the Bowels of Hell by wynahiros and mastafuu -- A had a bit of a tough time with this one. The line work is excellent, the action is good, the detailing and colouring are incredible. But I felt like there was somethign missign. It is, nonetheless, an excellent piece of work, my personal and inarticulable gripe aside.

Naruto

General

KakaIru vs ItaKisa by emlan -- TOO DAMN FUNNY AND CUTE.

Naruto: Sun, Moon, and Star by risachantag -- Normally I'm not too taken with attempts to make a deck of playing or tarot cards out of a series not originally designed. These, however, would not only look right at hoem in a great tarot deck, but are also great pieces of art all on their own. Very well done.

Kakashi/Iruka

Kakashi in the window by mangacat -- so playful and well done!

Caught by surprise by pinkuh -- Not only is it cute and fun, but it's a cel drawing! Very good quality for a cel, which are pretty damn difficult to work with.

Precious kakashi and Iruka by lizmun -- IT'S TOO CUTE SOMEONE SAVE ME

Kakashi x Iruka by mandachan -- I'm a fan of Kakashi's hair and very in-character pose =)

One Piece

General

Zoro Carrot by umitsu -- It makes me laugh and it's so true XD. Also well-rendered.

there's an easy life by taintedsilence -- This may be ust an ID pic, but it's original and well-executed, and definitely deserves a look.

Portgas D. Ace by lynda-chan -- It's Ace, it's hot, it's well-rendered. Do you need more excuses?

Zoro Roronoa by elvire -- Amazing portrayal of Zoro showing off somethign other than his broody side and his swords. Unique and excellently done!

Hang Out by psychedelicmind -- I love the friendly feeling of this pic, the spirit of comraderie. The colours are also amazing.

We are right here... by kalei-chan -- A breathtaking piece of line work from one of the fandom's most renowned artists. The Norland and Kalgara flashback remains my favourite part of the series (tied with Franky's flashback =P), and this scene evokes all the power of that arc.

enel by shu-zang -- Normally I'm not a fan of seasonal pics, partly some artists done't put as much effort ino them, but mostly because I get a ping of NO WAY! from most fandoms, since the majority of them don't have whatever holiday is being celebrated here on Earth. This pic, however, can stand all on it own with original pose and composition and very good colours.

the swordsman by elvire -- Good use of textures, and well done anatomy.

Sanji

Sanji by merry-sensei -- A fun watercolour of Sanji. I had a tough time deciding whether or not to rec this one, but the fun atmosphere and good control of a difficult medium won me over in the end =)

Sanji by umitsu -- It's all about the lighting and colour.

Happy Birthday Sanji-san by taintedsilence -- The colours are incredible. Very fine pencil and marker work!

the chef by jargirl -- This is part of a series, the rest of which is worth checing out, but this is my favourite. A startlingly original portrayal of our favourite chef. The artists has taken a pretty standard pose/expression and made i exciting with cool use of colour and line.

Zoro/Sanji

Scuttlebutt - matureness ahoy by asukawa -- Warning!: Blood, small amounts of nudity. Very emotional piece with well done atmosphere.

Lucci/Paulie

rampant chibi stupidity by kinbu -- Ex. Dee. Because you really have to wonder XD

Smoker/Ace

For Kichara by umitsu -- Great lighting, airy atmosphere, and in general wonderful execution.

Trigun

General

vash and spike by bri-chan -- The space cowboys together, inspired by the amazing AMV, Tainted Dounuts (which by itself is making me consider adding an AMV rec section....). I think their potential interaction is very well portrayed, and the detail and colours are excellent. So well-done that I put it BOTH under Trigun AND Cowboy Bebop.

vash goyle by bri-chan -- I'm generally not a fan of angel/devil/gargoyle/furry/whatever rendition of characters who aren't already one of the aforementioned, but this picture not only has excellent execution, but makes Vash still recognizable and believable.

Miscellaneous

Fairly Odd parents

Fairly Oddities by thweatted -- I'm always impressed when an artist can take characters that originally had a very cartoony style, put them into their own style, and still have them look completely in-character and recognizable. This pic includes most of the cast.

--

The Labyrinth

sarah by bri-chan -- Honestly not a fandom I'd ever thought I'd rec anything in, but this piece is AMAZING -- the detailed and controlled marker work is somethign worth seeing. I especially love the hair and headdress.

--

The Last Unicorn

the last by bri-chan -- One of my favourite movies (and books!). I always thought that movie had one of the most beautiful art styes I'd ever seen, and this picture captures that fathfully while adding a flair unique to the artist. marvelous =)

--

The Lion King

Adult Simba + Nala by wynahiros -- Since it's incomplete, I wouldn't normally rec this, but the sense of comfort, care, and stillness is worth it, and also the artist's faithfulness to the Disney style.

--

Miyazaki

Nausicaa by lcibos -- Amazing detail, great composition, and overall excellent execution.

--

Sailor Moon

my celestial star by bri-chan -- (Luna/Artemis) I love this couple, but they're so often ignored! Plus, it's a technically delightful piece =)

--

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

red ink and calligraphy pen by thweatted -- I normally wouldn't rec something that looks so sketchy and unpolished... but there's something about the loose lines that makes this picture very tense. Good portrayal of Leonardo.

---

Utena

in my rose garden by bri-chan -- Amazing penwork. Anthy and roses.

lucius malfoy - mr tough guy by makani -- A funny little comic done with makani's usual brilliant expressions and flawless style. Lucius' face in the last panel is PRICELESS.

malfoys + snow by makani -- My favourite part is the fourth panel, where Lucius can't decide if the situation is good or bad XD. Makani, as always, shows an excellent grasp of expression and character.

death eater brothers by makani -- Short, to the point, and worth a good snicker.

Metal Shoes by hail-nekoyasha -- To be honest, I'd always found Ruto and her stalkery behaviour kind of creepy.

Kakashi's Technique by risachantag -- OMFG TOO FUNNY XD. Not only is it hilarious, but it's also a well-drawn comic. Excellent!

Speaking Frankly by time-break -- Though this comic is comprised entirely of stick figures, it just seems too much like Franky and made me laugh. Hard.

Trial of the Century by time-break -- A moving scene in the manga, but here it's absolute, hilarious, utter CRACK.
